An Interview with The Golden Girls and The Soul Sisters

Cohousing?  Co-living?   What’s the difference?

When we talk about cohousing, we’re referring to an intentional community of private, self-contained dwellings, whether town houses or apartments, surrounded by common space.

Co-living refers to arrangements where unrelated individuals choose to live under one roof.  We know of two intentional co-living homes in Kingston. Ron Hartling’s home in Reddendale was recently featured in the Kingston Southwest Neighbours magazine. https://www.bestversionmedia.com/on/neighboursofkingstonsouthwest/#show-flipbook

We are always seeking opportunities for our members to create their own co-living, or small cohousing arrangements. If you could see yourself sharing a large house, or moving into an existing multi-unit building with other like-minded folks, let us know. Two multi-plexes in Kingston’s west end have recently come onto our radar.

Could I bring pets? What if someone is vegetarian? Those are questions that come to mind when people think about living in community. How do these matters get decided?

On March 20, 2026, we interviewed two intentional communities in Ottawa, a co-living house, described by CBC radio as Ottawa’s Golden Girls, and Ottawa’s Soul Sisters, a small, recently developed cohousing community.
