Wishing Won’t Make It Sew

Wishing Won’t make it Sew was a motto quietly displayed in the repair shop of Kingston’s much loved and now retired sewing machine expert, Vern Simkins. I bought my first machine from him, a Singer Featherweight, back in the 70s, when I was a student. As he patiently demonstrated its use, I was awed by this young man who understood the simple but magical workings of the sewing machine. During the COVID lockdown, women lined up outside Vern’s shop waiting for his help. We joked that he was the most popular man in Kingston at the time.

Vern’s motto can be applied to any area of life. Our supporters tell us regularly how much they’d like to see a cohousing community in Kingston. It takes effort and persistence to get any non-profit project off the ground. We need more folks involved to help us advance.

Visiting almost a dozen completed cohousing communities has proven to us that it is possible for a small grassroots group like ours to develop into a vibrant cohousing village.  Although it takes time, it is entirely doable. But wishing isn’t enough.

Please take a moment to email an e-transfer of $40 to become a Friend of Kingston Cohousing. No obligation or expectation ensues; it is simply a way to endorse our efforts and support the creation of non-profit housing in Kingston.

If you have skills to offer and would like to help advance the project, we invite you to become an Explorer Member, attend a few meetings and see if our approach aligns with your values.

Check our Get Involved tab for details.

Help us make Cohousing so!
